Rising Identity Theft and Fraud Crimes

Year on year, identity theft and fraud is on the rise according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). With 11 millions cases so far, experts are working overtime to resolve the issue. This shocking figure means that at any given moment anyone can lose his or her identity to theft.

There are new laws to protect against identity theft. But few states have yet to implement them. These new law prohibit companies from storing personal information from consumers like social security numbers on their database and prevent their disclosure. The state laws found that thousands of pieces of information leaked from the 'databases' of particular companies into the hands of thieves to curb the rising identity theft and fraud.

We don't doubt that authorities are fighting hard against identity fraud and theft but questions arise when few tell their story. It left wondering if the system to curb the crime is working. Victims' stories suggest the law is slow and did nothing in restoring lives.
To the victims, reporting a crime means just being given a report number and never contacted again with any resolution. As such, when the persons were lifted up to court for unauthorized debts, lawyers or other authorities did nothing to help them out.
New bullet proof laws are long overdue. The 911 case was a case in point that it is much needed.

Identity theft and fraud is more hideous than rape, assault, or other crimes. These victims become survivors since they can fight back and restore their lives. On the other hand when a person falls into the hands of identity theft, it leaves a lingering feeling of raped, robbed, stripped naked in public, beaten, and so forth with a feeling that lasts for years, since the security and privacy of the individual has been loss forever.

Identity theft and fraud is increasing each day of our existence and although technology claims to develop new strategies that will halt identity theft, they fail to realize that thieves work harder to get in the doors of new designs. But thieves are always one-step ahead of technology.

New technology is merely a new challenge for identity thieves. Internet providers claim to have some of the best tools for fighting identity theft, yet victims around the world will tell you different. One of the biggest swindles abroad the Internet is the Spam mails that arrive in your mailbox daily. Spammers are sending mails to consumers claiming that their card is out dated and needs to be updated and if you are not too careful you could click on the wrong place and be the next victim of identity theft and fraud.
