Identity Theft Victims - Can You Cope?

The rising number of identity theft victims is scary. As the years goes by more people are falling into the hands of these perpetrators. The need to protect your identity is more so than ever. Nowadays with the newest and expanding technology development, identity thieves are finding it easier to steal someone's information over the net. Still, the statistics have shown that family members and friends also steal identity in some instances, thus everyone is suspect when it comes to identity theft.

Once you are a victim to identity theft, can you cope? Few thieves file bankruptcy, commit additional crimes, cover a crime with the victim's identity and the list goes on. When the victim finds that their credit report is violated by an identity thief, the victim must adhere to an ongoing battle. The credit bureaus unfortunately do not remove the actions committed by the thief; rather the bureaus often place 'resolved, cleared,' or what have behind the debt of bankruptcy. Thus, when creditors see the report and the Fraud Alert pending on the report they have no idea who committed the crime and often assume and this affects the victim even more.

When your identity is stolen, it is often difficult to get back on track. The victim has to stay on his toes each day to make sure no further advantage has been taken against him. Thus, the victim must monitor is banking accounts, credit reports and any information linked to him each day. The days will be long and hard.

In general, when family and friends steal your identity it is often easier to catch the perpetrator, however if your identity is stolen online there is no guarantee that the perpetrator will be caught. The World Wide Net is one of the easiest places for criminals to steal or luring victims into a web of crime and hate. Millions of people each year fall into the hands of identity thieves. Unfortunately, the most of these people rarely see justice.

Once you are a victim, you have to watch over so many things. You must continue to watch the activity going on in your life, including any financial accounts. Most likely, you will find it difficult to get credit, since rarely does creditors consider victims. Therefore, prepare to save money for your future and if possible keep the money in a safe place or else in a newly open banking account. It is hard but your life will be dramatically changed.

Identity theft victims should continue to change their passwords and PIN numbers at random to prevent further crimes committed against them. Removing traces of online activities and making sure that you clean out your internet activities is important. If you have access to the Internet and visit the sites online frequently, make sure you erase all traces of your activity immediately after you have left the sites. If you order online, make sure the sites are secure and that you destroy any traces of your information immediately by clicking the Tools at the top of your Internet page and clicking Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History. You can also perform this action by clicking Start at the lower section of your screen and click Control Panel and Internet Options.

Finally, you will also need to protect your computer with Spyware programs and Virus programs. Be safe rather sorry.
